A quiet and atmospheric moment along the Welsh coastline near Barmouth, where a break in the heavy cloud allows a soft shaft of sunlight to grace the sea. These are the moments I am always looking for. Fleeting changes in light that can appear for only a few seconds before the clouds close again and the scene is gone. You cannot really plan for them. You simply have to be there, watching and waiting. Here, almost everything is held in shadow, with just a subtle glow on the horizon and delicate light dancing the horizon. There is a real sense of stillness and space, and of the vastness of the coast. I love the fact that photographs like this preserve something that was never going to last.
